Parks & Recreation Commission

The Parks and Recreation Commission was created by Ordinance Number 438 of the Ordinance of the City of Live Oak, and our Code of Ordinances outline its duties.  Their objectives include:

  •  Recommend plans to the planning commission and the city council for developing, establishing, locating and expanding the city’s park system.
  •  Establish and implement procedures and methods for the operation of present and future parks with council approval.
  •  Interpret the attitudes and the recreation needs of the city and determine and recommended a program to satisfy those needs.
  •  Receive complaints on the park operation and satisfy such complaints to the satisfaction of the commission and complainant within the authority vested in the commission.

The Commission consists of seven regular positions and three alternates.  Meetings are held quarterly on the 2nd Tuesday in January, April, July and October at 6:00 p.m. The Tree Care Board will begin at 6:00 p.m. Immediately following is the Parks & Recreation Commission meeting.

Shown in the Photographs, several members of the City of Live Oak's Parks and Recreation Commission at the City Council Meetings presenting Volunteer Awards to Janita Woodall (November 2017) and Tiffany Rodriguez (February 2018).

Janita Woodall has been a very active Volunteer throughout the City of Live Oak!  She can be found year after year at the Halloween Family Night, Pet-Paw-Looza, Wellness on Wheelz (animal vaccinations), Animal Control, and 5K's just to name a few.  She always has a smile and positive attitude which makes her a true asset to the City of Live Oak!

Without hesitation, Tiffany Rodriguez jumped right in to serve wherever needed at the City of Live Oak's Christmas event.  Not only did she show up early in the day to help with the necessary setup in the new location, she volunteered to work the entire night greeting and assisting guests in the line for Santa.  She managed to efficiently control the crowd, answer questions from guests and interacted with the citizens always with a smile on her face.  Ms. Rodriguez played a vital role in the festivities of the night, and was a true asset to the success of the Christmas event.
